We have many exciting trips in 2008.
The schedule below provides information about specific future trips. As you consider the possibility of joining a team, be sure to read FaithWorks' Core Values and Goals and the information provided about Participating in a FaithWorks' mission trip.
The task of each trip is different, but there is only one purpose for all trips -- to share Christ's love in ways that make a Christian difference. Task and purpose are closely related and both should be accomplished so that Jesus Christ will be lifted up by all we do as servants. Volunteers are asked to:
1. Radiate Christ's love;
2. Share Christ's spirit of kindness, acceptance, and unity;
3. Serve Christ through serving people;
4. Lift up God in all they do;
5. Have a healthy prayer life;
6. Think team, not self;
7. Be flexible, patient, and relaxed;
8. Realize that people are more important than work results;
9. Understand that cultures are different, not superior or inferior; and
10. Be open to God's blessing!
Choose the trip that interests you and then fill out the Mission Trip Application form. This can be opened in any word processing program.
| Sonora, Mexico [Medical/Family-friendly] -- A medical/dental mission team will be sent to Agua Prieta, just south of the U.S. border in the state of Sonora. This will be our 14th medical mission into Sonora where professionals are welcomed with kindness. We'll continue to assist in the free provisions of medical care and medicines to the poor who cannot afford either, all in Christ's name! | February 14-17, 2008 |
| Holbrook, AZ [Construction/Family-friendly] -- We'll gather to help a Faithworks member church struggling to complete a much needed restroom addition. Here's our chance to assist a congregation in the middle of Navajo country, to enable them in the important ministry of the Gospel to Native Americans and the entire Holbrook community. | March 28-29, 2008
|
| Cottonwood, AZ [Construction/Family-friendly] -- We have the distinct privilege of converging on "The Old Town Mission" where Director Brian Detwiler is doing a great job of putting into practice our shared Christian faith by ministering to the children of "the working poor" in the Verde Valley. We do whatever is needed -- cleaning, painting, office assistance, building repair of any kind -- just so they at the mission can keep serving those in the community. It is a wonderful "one-day" mission, come on out! | April 12, 2008 |
| Moscow, Russia [Construction/ Children's Ministry] -- We return for the 6th year to orphanage #105 in Moscow, one of the world's great cities (15 million people). We'll partner with Tatyana Duginova and the staff of this orphanage to bring Jesus' love to these wonderful kids. There are over 150 there, from ages 5 - 17, whose parents have either died or who cannot take care of them. Building fix-up and VBS-type ministry, armed with toys, treats, and unique Arizona gifts, we'll say "We're back! God loves and so do we!" | May 10-25, 2008 |
| Northern New Mexico [Construction/Family Friendly] -- This is our annual maintenance/construction team trip to historic (1892) McCurdy Mission School in Espanola, New Mexico. Our goal is to assist the ministry of this important 450-student K-12 school established by Christian missionaries to serve the Indian and Spaniard communities in this area of Santa Fe/Taos. We'll wash windows, arrange and clean classroom furnishings, repair roofs, landscape, paint, etc. -- all to save precious budget money so that it can go to school supplies and salaries for the hard working dedicated staff at McCurdy. | July 20 - 26, 2008 |
| The African Orphanage Ministry Project [Medical, Pastors, Children's Ministry] -- For the third year, we partner with Kilanya Parish of the Lutheran Church of Northern Tanzania on the slope of Mt. Kilimanjaro by sending a mission team comprised of pastors, teachers, and medical professionals to assist in relieving the suffering of this HIV/AIDS ravaged culture. We'll do pastoral support ministry, children's VBS programs, and will provide free medical care and medicines. And as a bonus along with hard work, we safari to Ngorongoro Crater to enjoy the wildlife viewing. Note: this is a three-week mission. | July 23 - Aug 13, 2008
|
| Anchorage, Alaska [Construction/Family Friendly] -- This will be our seventh mission to the 49th state, assisting this time with building fix-up at Birchwood Camp, a Christian camp serving the Anchorage area. We'll enjoy the cultural uniqueness too, including Inuit dancing and singing and optional salmon fishing! | August 17 - 24, 2008 |
| Ft. Defiance, Arizona [Construction/Family-friendly] -- We enter into the labor of love that has been the story of Good Shepard Episcopal Mission since the late 1800's. We'll take 12-15 workers who feel God's call to refurbish these wonderfully historic buildings in Navajoland -- equipping the Christian congregation there to keep on "holding forth the Word of Life" in Jesus Christ. | September 17-21, 2008 |
| Sonora, Mexico -- Once again, we send another great medical team on mission to Agua Prieta, Mexico, for a four-day getaway for ministry. We'll continue to improve the medical provisions and level of care in the destination to which we're sent. We provide medical care and medicines to poor children who cannot afford to go to a doctor or pharmacy in Mexico. Great weather in Sonora this time of year! | Nov. 6 - 9, 2008 |
| Antelope Hills, AZ [Construction/Family-friendly/Children's Ministry] -- Our annual Christmas ministry to Navajo children and families. This will be our 8th year to coordinate Christmas across denominational lines to provide needed ministry to Indian children in the "Nation to the North". Our destination is just a 20-minute drive north of Highway 89A. What a great time it will be as we provide important building fix-up and repair to the Widow's Mite compound, and then we'll have a Christmas Party for the children, distributing gifts and food complete with Santa Claus! Another one day mission event nearby Flagstaff!
